Del Ray and Old Town Business Associations Face Off In 4th Annual Softball Battle

The Del Ray Business Association and the Old Town Business Association will face off in the 4th annual Del Ray vs. Old Town softball battle on Thursday, May 26 at the Simpson Park little field (426 E. Monroe Avenue). The event will benefit the Alexandria Little League Scholarship Fund.

Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson will throw out the first pitch at 6 p.m.; Explanation Kids’ Michelle Millben will sing the National Anthem. Officiating the game are Sheriff Sean Casey; former Sheriff Dana Lawhorne; and former Undersheriff Tim Gleason.

Tequila & Taco (540 John Carlyle St.) will host a pre-game Margarita Happy Hour on Monday, May 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Old Town Manager Trea Lamond of Chadwicks and Del Ray Manager Bill Blackburn of Homegrown Restaurant Group will be guest bartending; the manager who slings the most margaritas will win the coin toss. A portion of all margarita sales and all guest bartender tips will be donated to Alexandria Little League’s Scholarship Fund.

Now in its fourth year, the friendly rivalry pits the Del Ray Business Association against the Old Town Business Association in an annual battle for the for the John Porter Cup. Old Town currently leads the series 2-1. “We’re going to bring the John Porter Cup back to Del Ray,” said Blackburn.
