The Salvation Army at Alexandria Citadel Corps is helping people meet their basic needs – and turn their lives around. Year-round support is available for people in crisis. At the core of it all is the commitment to meeting the spiritual needs of the community, through weekly church services and Bible study, which is open to everyone. Skilled music teachers also volunteer their time to tutor school-aged students in brass banding and music theory. Each semester ends with a recital so students can share their talent with the community. We host AA meetings (Alcoholics Anonymous) M, W, F 5:30-6:30 PM Saturdays 5-6 PM Sundays 4-5 P

We are a leader in differentiated instruction for students with ADHD, executive functioning challenges, and mild learning differences, and bring equal parts expertise and compassion to the work we do. With an emphasis on college prep, Commonwealth Academy empowers students to fully explore their intellectual passions and potential while fostering the growth that enables them to excel now and in the future. Our tight-knit community allows for the types of learning environments, relationships, and opportunities where kids are seen and supported for who they are and able to become their very best selves. We see the value, spark, and promise in every young person we have the pleasure to know.

Wilderness Kids Alexandria exists to provide life-enriching experiences in nature to teenagers from under-resourced families in Alexandria. We are the only organization in the City doing this work.
The Alexandria Music Makers Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing non-primary school music education to deserving young musicians. Our goal is to provide scholarships to children in our area so they can study music at any of our partner schools. We need donations to provide music education to our community’s low-income children. School programs are great and we fully support them, but they are often not enough so we rely on non-primary school music schools to fill the gap.
ALX Dog Walk, a 501(c)(3), hosts the DMV’s biggest dog walk event annually in Alexandria and uses the funds raised to promote plastic-free and sustainable living throughout the region. We also help to beautify and protect the City of Alexandria’s environment. The third annual Walk happens April 20, 2024! Mark your calendar and join the more than 500+ dogs for a 2-mile walk and celebration at Oronoco Bay Park!
