Expanding the Common Ground Exhibit

“Connected Worlds” by Beth Richardson

Start
October 01, 2021

End
October 30, 2021

Location
Del Ray Artisans, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue

The Expanding the Common Ground: Voices of the Global Majority art exhibit explores what makes us one, seeks the common ground among us, and examines what it means to heal the divides. The world has been designed by institutions, and terms like people of color or minorities serve to divide us and create white vs. non-white or us vs. them paradigms. Local artists and high school students present artworks examining all facets of our diversity and celebrating our unity.

Reserve a ticket for a half-hour viewing on opening day: Friday, October 1 between 12-9pm. Opening day tickets are not required, but ticket holders have priority entry.

Plus join us for the “Storytelling in Fabric” virtual Artist Talk on Sunday, October 10 at 2-3pm. Fabric artist Sheryl Sims will share her art quilts that illustrate her family’s heritage of black and white, enslaved and free. Register in advance to receive the Zoom link.

Gallery hours are Thursday 12-6pm, Friday 12-9pm, Saturday 12-6pm, and Sunday 12-6pm (closed the last Sunday of the month). Del Ray Artisans is ALX Promise certified and committed to the health and safety of our visitors. Face masks must be worn by all while visiting the gallery.

The exhibit runs October 1 – 30, 2021 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22301. The gallery is free, open to the public, and accessible.
