The Del Ray and Old Town business communities will face off in the 7th annual Del Ray vs. Old Town softball battle on Monday, June 2; Mayor Alyia Gaskins throws out the first pitch at 6pm. This friendly competition is a a fundraiser for the Alexandria Little League Scholarship Fund.
The event will take place at little field at Eugene Simpson Park (426 E. Monroe Avenue). Team Del Ray, led by Coach Bill Blackburn of the Homegrown Restaurant Group, is looking forward to defending the John Porter Cup and champion status against Team Old Town, lead by Trea Lamond of Chadwicks. The overall series is 4-2, with Del Ray leading.

A basket of gift cards to Del Ray businesses will be raffled off to benefit the Alexandria Little League Scholarship Fund, which works to bring the “ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for authority” to young players so they may be “well-adjusted, stronger, and happier children and will grow to be good, decent, healthy and trustworthy citizens.” Stay tuned for details on how to purchase raffle tickets — you do not need to be present to win!
