Pain Myth Busting: Pain Does Not Equal Damage

Most of us are still using a model of how pain works from 380 years ago. Myth 1: Pain=tissue
damage. It seems logical. However, pain is much more complex and involves nearly every
system in the body.

Have you ever had a scratch or a bruise, and you had no idea where it came from? This is tissue damage, yet no pain. The opposite is also true. Many people can have significant, even debilitating pain, and their scans look just beautiful. This is where things get confusing and frustrating when we attach to the myth that pain and tissue damage are the same.

This is why we need to get more curious. The nervous system, environment, stress, sleep, thoughts, and past experiences influence pain. They all matter. And super important to note, all pain is real. We have never scanned fake pain.

This is the beginning of the shift toward PainLESS for Life. Not fighting it, rather understanding it so you can start to work with your nervous system differently and take your life back from pain.
