"Shop and Dine Locally" Night and "Ladies Shopping Night"
See the
sample flyer that you can print out and give to customers who buy or eat at your stores/restaurants on one of the special shopping nights. It's really important to emphasize that this is NOT a coupon that can be used any other time. Customers will have to show a receipt from a participating business for an item or food bought at one of our stores/restaurants THAT NIGHT ONLY in order to get the discount or free drink.
Volunteer for the Turkey Trot
Our major fundraiser of the year, the Turkey Trot, is coming up on Thanksgiving morning (Thursday November 27). The funds from this event are used for such important things as DRBA marketing (Mt. Vernon Avenue banners, website, maps, and brochures) and leadership development.
Almost 100 volunteers are needed to help, mostly on the morning of the race. Please consider volunteering, even if you only have a short window of time. Most volunteer jobs will be around 1 to 2 hours. Volunteers receive a complimentary Turkey Trot t-shirt. To sign up as a volunteer, please email Suzanne Caldwell at AlexTurkeyTrot@gmail.com, or call her at 571.221.0614.

Looking Ahead to Holiday Tree Lighting
Our
traditional holiday tree lighting will take place at the corner of Mt.
Vernon Avenue and Commonwealth at 6pm on December 6th. There will also
be luminarias placed up and down the Avenue and throughout Warwick
Village in honor of Nancy Dunning that evening. Nancy was a local
realtor who spent many hours volunteering for the business association
and organized the first luminaria display shortly before she was
murdered in December 2003. Click for more information.
Businesses are encouraged to organize special holiday events and to stay open late on December 6th. Help placing, lighting and cleaning up luminarias would also be greatly appreciated by the events committee. Email delraybusiness@gmail.com to volunteer.

September Luncheon; Footsteps to the Past
The
speaker at the September luncheon was Betty Ward with Footsteps to the
Past, a company that organizes historically oriented walking tours for
tour groups. She is proposing to bring tour buses to Del Ray to drop
off their clients who will then spend a few hours eating and shopping
in our neighborhood. The company will also create a tour of Del Ray
highlighting some of our history.
