Off the Beaten Path: Del Ray
Washington Post Shop To It blog by Tania Anderson
"While Mount Vernon Avenue, tenderly called
"The Avenue" by business owners, stretches for several blocks through
Del Ray, I found the best shopping between Uhler and Bellefonte
avenues. The blocks are filled with a wide range of retailers selling
clothing, gifts, local art, home furnishings, wine and fine cheeses and
hats. And mixed in is an unusual amount of therapeutic businesses, such
as a yoga studio, a few massage places -- including one devoted to
feet, and some spas.

The Hidden Family Nest
Financial Times, January 12, 2008
It is easy to miss Del Ray, Virginia. And that's very strange, given its location. Two miles in the other direction you hit Reagan National Airport and Crystal City, a towering complex of offices, apartments and hotels.
But somehow, in spite of the neighbouring activity, Del Ray remains off the beaten path, set back just a block or two from the highways that carry most of the traffic in the area.

Del Ray, Alexandria, Virginia
Cottage Living Magazine
Del Ray has it all—inviting lawns, friendly neighbors, and charming bungalows. Because of its primo location—within the Washington, D.C., Beltway and near the Metro—it also has eye-popping home prices. Market trends aside, Del Ray manages to hold on to that certain something you just want to come home to. "We consider ourselves a front porch community," says longtime resident Pat Miller, co-owner of A Show of Hands, which sells original works by local artists.
